LOC was one of the first products of Amway Corporation. Victor, Jody & Kathy Jody tells stories of it being made in his bathtub, and his childhood job was to stick the labels on LOC and dishdrops. And that LOC used to change color between batches.

At the time it was a revolutionary product on the market. This was because most detergents didn't break down in the environment, due to there chemical composition. Thus resulting in foam build up in water ways. However LOC broke down in the environment, thus avoiding the pollution.

It was stated by diamonds, and above, that LOC was used in the first gulf war to clean up the oil spills caused in the conflict.

Another major use for LOC is a "wetting" agent for Agricultural spay, that is adding a surfactant that is a soap reduces the surface tension of the water. This results in the water wetting the leaf instead of sitting a bubble on the surface. This is especially important as leaves often have a waxy surface to facilitate the water running off.
