LOS Upline:

"Keeping up with the Joneses" is just a phrase, or is it? By 1977, when they were first introduced to the Amway Business, Jim and Julie Jones enjoyed a lifestyle that many could not attain. His income was in the top 5% of all Florida attorneys. Before they started their family, she had worked as a registered nurse. They were involved in a number of businesses. They built their dream home before reaching 30. Both were pilots. They learned to ski in Europe. They enjoyed the best beaches. The "keeping up with the Joneses" phrase definitely fit. But all was not as it seemed. "We had a great lifestyle," Jim relates, "but I didn't want to depend on my trial work to be our only source of income. I was always on the lookout for something that could offer a lot of income potential with little capital risk." Jim was a ideal prospect for the Amway business.

"Actually," he smiles, I barely knew the person who showed us this opportunity. He moved into our community and started attending our church. I kept hearing bits and pieces about the business he was involved with, and finally I called him to ask if he would show me what he was doing. In fact, I also asked if I could bring two friends with me! We got together.

I was intrigued, and decided to check it out. I called attorneys general around the country to check out the corporate sponsor. I did retail credit checks. I called every source that I could, even a United States Senator's office. Everything kept checking out. Then we flew down to Miami to a big meeting that featured Dexter Yager. That sealed it for us. We excelled quickly and reached the Direct level in a short period of time. In Less than 3 years, we qualified as Diamonds!

Lest anyone thinks it was easy for the Joneses to reach Diamond, Jim quickly points to a well-worn success track.

"The legal profession is pretty negative." he says. You have to be a bit of a cynic to remain objective. I had a lot of growing to do, and I knew it. From the day we made the commitment to build this business, Julie and I started doing everything we could to be successful. We have never missed a function since then."

Life has become a living geography class. From their home-base in Florida, they traveled in a motor coach throughout the country speaking and building their business for several years while their children -Jennifer and Jenise- were growing up. Jim has written books, including one featured by Billy Graham. He and Julie are popular speakers. They travel throughout the world to favorite vacation places and ski resorts.

"It's a great life," Jim says. "We enjoy the income of more traditional professions, but we have total freedom. Frankly, I know a lot of lawyers who want to be Diamonds, but I don't know one Diamond who wants to be a lawyer!"

With Jim and Julie, "keeping up with the Joneses" seems like a perfect idea.
