Rick Fairchild, the youngest of four boys, was born in western North Carolina, where his family worked on tobacco farms and operated heavy equipment. Rick followed suit and worked on the farm until he joined the U.S. Air Force at the age of 20. Toni was also born and raised in western North Carolina. Her mother worked in the hosiery mills and her father was a house painter.

After high school, Toni also joined the air force, looking for a better way of life. Joining the air force on the "Buddy System," Rick and Toni were assured they could stay together for their entire tour of duty. However, the story changed once they were in basic training.

Rick was to be stationed in Arizona, and Toni in Illinois. Since they had been high school sweethearts for almost three years, they got married on a weekend pass while still in basic training, and were stationed together in Minot, North Dakota. It was in Minot that Rick and Toni were introduced to a marketing business.

They were both Airmen First Class, which means "very lowly enlisted," says Rick. They lived in a 14' x 50' mobile home and drove a Toyota pickup. Rick had just turned 21, and Toni was 19. They were in training full time, and were also taking college classes three evenings a week. After 2-1/2 years of building their business part time, they were both able to get out of the air force and make their business a full-time endeavor. They were Diamonds in the business by the time Rick had turned 27. A lot has changed for the Fairchilds since they became business owners. Their Toyota pickup has been replaced many, may times by luxury cars of their choice. Living in Florida had been a dream for the Fairchilds, and thanks to their business, that dream came true. Rick and Toni enjoy the Florida lifestyle of golf, tennis, swimming, going to the beach, or just "hanging out" with their son, Ricky. They live in a custom home on a beautiful golf course in the Orlando, Florida area, complete with a swimming pool, game room, basketball/tennis court area, custom furniture and rugs, and all the rest of the trimmings. "Everything was done to taste, not to a budget," adds Rick. But the best rewards from this business are the ones that others can't see, they agree. There are the internal victories of overcoming fear and doubt and low self-esteem, and learning how to relate and interact with other people; of learning how to bounce back and try again. Not to mention, the spiritual growth that has occurred because of the association with all the business leaders. "Our time spent in this business would have been worth it even if we hadn't made a lot of money, just for the lessons and values we've learned," says Rick. Toni adds, "We think it's the greatest business in the world, and we urge everyone to get involved and stick with it until it works for them'!
