In September, they incorporated as the Ja-Ri Corporation. By 1958, Nutrilite was experiencing management problems. That summer, Jay and Rich decided they needed to develop a product line on the side to protect their distributors. In the fall the distributors voted to become the American Way Association. In early 1959, Amway Corporation came into official being. They broke away from Nutrilite in 1961. In 1972, Amway bought a controlling interest in Nurtilite. They now own it, outright.
